Amarna is an extensive Egyptian archaeological site that represents the remains of the capital city newly established (1346 BC) and built by the Pharaoh Akhenaten of the late Eighteenth Dynasty, and abandoned shortly after his death (1332 BC).
The area is located on the east bank of the Nile River in the modern Egyptian province of Minya.

Amarna was founded by the New Kingdom pharaoh Akhenaten, son of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye, husband of Nefertiti, and probable father of Tutankhamen.
Akhenaten’s mission was to elevate the innovative religious ideas of his father into a comprehensive alternative to the complex theological system inherited from Egypt’s past. His aim was a form of monotheism centred on the worship of the sun-disc Aten. To break the power of traditional temple hierarchies elsewhere, he built a new capital on a virgin site, roughly midway between the historic capitals of Upper and Lower Egypt at Thebes and Memphis respectively. He called the city Akhet-Aten – ‘the horizon of Aten’. Here, a magnificent shrine could be established for the worship of Aten – with all other deities excluded from the city. Day 1: Arrival Day Cairo

Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport you will be met by our Pink Lotus Tours representative who will assist you will purchase of entrance visa and arrival process.
You will then meet with your guide for your trip to Amarna.
We drive roughly for 4 hours to the south of Cairo, upon arrival to El-Minya we visit the great plain, where Akhenaten received his divine inspiration to build his city.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant then we continue to Tuna El Gabal to visit the Tomb of Petosiris, Ibis catacombs and Isadora Tomb that goes back to the 2nd century AD and belongs to Isadora the renown for her beauty in the city of Hermopolis.

Day 2: El Minya

After breakfast, we visit Beni Hassan where we can see Bakhet III Tomb, Khnumhotep Tomb, and Khety Tomb.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant then we continue to Tel El-Amarna to visit Ahmose Tomb and Huya Tomb.
Overnight El-Minya

Day 3: Return to Cairo

After breakfast, we drive back to Cairo.
